New Delhi: Eminent Journalist and former Member of Parliament Kuldip Nayar launched former Chairman of Prasar Bharti Arun Bhatnagar's book 'India Shedding the Past, Embracing the Future 1906-2017' at India International Center on Monday.

About the Book:
The decision of the British Government to partition Bengal came into effect in October, 1905 and separated the largely Muslim eastern areas from thelargely Hindu western areas of the province. The seeds of separatism in the sub-continent were abundantly manifest with the founding of the All India Muslim League in Dacca in December, 1906. The League was destined to be, in later years, the vehicle for the demand of a separate nation-state.

Bengal, re-united in 1911, was divided, for the second time, in 1947 as part of the Partition of India. In 1955, East Bengal became East Pakistan and, in 1971, a sovereign Bangladesh, after breaking away from Pakistan.

On the Seventieth Anniversary, in the year 2017, of the Partition of India, this Book is among the latest writings on that horrific saga which became a defining moment in Asian history. Its repercussions and after-effects are in evidence to the present day.
