Virudhunagar: At least 11 workers of a private fireworks factory near Sattur in this district were killed in an explosion at the unit on Friday, police said.

The incident happened while some chemicals were being mixed to produce fireworks, police said.

Initial reports quoting fire service personnel said about 36 people were injured in the explosion.

CM announced ex-gratia of Rs 3 Lakhs each to kin of deceased & Rs 1 Lakh for critically injured.

Prime minister Modi also  announced Rs 2 lakhs each for kin of deceased & Rs 50,000 for seriously injured.
