Election Commission To Centre: Stop sending 'Viksit Bharat' messages on WhatsApp

New Delhi: The Election Commission Thursday directed the Union Government to "immediately halt" sending 'Viksit Bharat' Messages on WhatsApp to highlight the government's initiatives.

The Commission issued the direction to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology after it received complaints about the matter and asked it to immediately submit a compliance report.

"The move is a part of a series of decisions taken by the Commission to ensure a level-playing field," the Commission said.

This action by the Election Commission comes after it received a number of complaints about the model code being violated by MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) sending the messages.
