New Delhi/ 1 Jan.
A step to cut down smog in the national capital, the AAP government’s ambitious Odd-Even formula was rolled out on Friday. Only odd-numbered cars were allowed on the roads as part of a 15-day plan. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal carpooled with transport minister Gopal Rai and Health Minister Satyendra Jain while Tourism minister Kapil Mishra took a motorbike to work. Around 200 teams of civil defence volunteers were out on the roads carrying placards explaining the rules. They were handing out flowers to offenders. Those with even-numbered cars were also being stopped and fined Rs. 2,000. Among the offenders was BJP parliamentarian Satyapal Singh, a former Mumbai police chief.

Kejriwal: Odd-Even scheme a success
Overwhelmed by the response, Kejriwal said Delhiites have achieved the impossible.

Gopal Rai: All set for Monday
Delhi transport minister Gopal Rai thanked the people for making the scheme a success and choosing health over comfort. Brushing aside the reports which stated that the formula succeeded because of New Year holiday, the minister said that the government is prepared for Monday.

BS Bassi: Cooperate with the Delhi Police
Delhi Police Chief BS Bassi has also requested people to cooperate with police for the next 15 days.

The Delhi government has arranged for 3,000 extra buses to ply in the city while Delhi Metro will be running 70 extra tips across all its corridors for the period during which the restrictions are in place. Though, the formula has tasted success on day one, will it be able to continue its stint is to be seen now.
