On the first Monday of Shravan, thousands of devotees are queuing up in Shiva temples across the country to offer prayers to Lord Shiva and Goddess Gauri.

They offer Bel leaves, flowers and milk to the Shiva Lingam and observe fast till sunset.

All Shiva temples have been beautifully decorated for the occasion.

Fasting on Mondays during the month is also a ritual.

Most of the people observe Solah Somvar (fasting on sixteen consecutive Mondays). The fasts begin from the first Monday of Shravan.

According to the mythological traditions, it is believed that worshipping Lord Shiva, especially during this month keeps the people blessed with wealth and prosperity.
