Sunil Lanba takes over as Navy Chief

Admiral Sunil Lanba has assumed charge as the 23rd Chief of the Naval Staff. He succeeds Admiral Robin K Dhowan.
 


Lanba was appointed as the new chief of the Naval Staff on May 6. He is a recipient of Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM). Lanba is a qualified specialist in navigation and direction course.

 

The Chief of the Naval Staff is the highest-ranking officer in the Indian Navy. The position is designated to a four-star officer in the rank of Admiral. The Chief of the Naval Staff generally reaches superannuation upon serving three years or at the age of 62, whichever is earlier.
