New Delhi / 16 Feb 2016. Smartphones are generally available in the market with a price range of around Rs 1,500, yet one-year old Indian smartphone maker Ringing Bells is set to launch the worldâs most affordable smartphone âFreedom 251â priced at under Rs 500.
The formal launch will take place on Wednesday, 17 February 2016 by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
The Freedom 251 smartphone is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modiâs vision for âempowering India to the last person, transforming Indiaâs growth storyâ, the Noida-based company said, adding that their aim is for full indigenous development of feature rich smartphones.
Last year software company DataWind had announced a tie up with Reliance Communications (RCOM) to launch the worldâs most affordable smartphone with a price tag of Rs 999, yet the phone is yet to hit the markets.
India has one of the fastest growing smartphone markets globally, which combined with PM Narendra Modiâs Make in India concept provides excellent opportunities for emerging companies branching out into the field of smartphone manufacturing.
