Pushpa Kamal Prachanda takes over as Nepal PM

Kathmandu/ 3 August 2016. The Parliament of Nepal on Wednesday elected Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre (CPN-MC) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the 39th Prime Minister of Nepal.
363 law makers voted in favour of Pushpa Kamal Dahal out of the 573 votes casted in the 595-member parliament.
Law makers adorned the new PM with Buddhist prayer scarves around his neck after he got elected unopposed.
Dahal was the only applicant to the Prime Minister's post when he filed his candidature at the Parliament Secretariat on Tuesday.
Dahal while presenting his plans said that he would try to lead the nation towards economic development while moving ahead in the spirit of national consensus during his premiership.
The new PM said that his candidacy itself was meant to strengthen the national consensus among all parties to solve all problems, including the concerns of Madhesi parties and the challenges of post-earthquake reconstruction.
Dahal who is also well-known as Prachanda, led a guerrilla war against the government in the past and later served as the Prime Minister from 2008 to 2009.
