Mother Teresa canonization: Indian Delegations in Vatican City for ceremony

New Delhi / 3 September 2016. Nobel laureate nun Mother Teresa will be declared a saint by Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic Church in a canonisation ceremony in Vatican City on Sunday in the presence of over a lakh of her followers from all over the world.
Delegations from India
From India, a 12-member Central delegation led by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and two state government-level delegations from Delhi and West Bengal led by Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee, respectively, have reached Vatican City to be in attendance during the ceremony.
In March, Pope Francis had announced that the Mother, who spent 45 years serving the poor and sick on the streets in Kolkata, will be elevated to sainthood after the Church recognised two miracles attributed to her after her death.
Celebration in Kolkata
To mark the occasion a series of events are being held in the city of Kolkata where the Mother lived and worked all her life.
At the Mother House in Kolkata, a special mass will be organised on Sunday. The nuns have promised to celebrate the occasion with the poorest of the poor.
About Mother Teresa and her work
Born as Agnes Gonxha Bajaxhiu on August 26, 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia, Mother Teresa is the founder of Missionaries of Charity.
At the time of Mother Teresa's death on September 5, 1997 in Kolkata, India, the Sisters of the Missionaries of Charity numbered 3,914 members, and were established in 594 communities in 123 countries of the world.
Her work continues under the guidance of Sr. M Prema, MC, Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity Sisters. The order has grown over 4,000 members in 697 foundations in 131 countries of the world.
