Lahore Easter blast killing 69, injuring 300 claimed by Pakistani terror group

A Pakistani Taliban faction group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has claimed responsibility for the first large-scale terror attack in Punjab province’s capital Lahore; a suicide bomb attack in a park that killed at least 69 while injuring nearly 300 others on Easter Sunday. 

 

 

The blast took place on Sunday in the parking lot of the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park in Lahore which was crowded on the occasion of Easter, killing nearly 60 people instantly and severely injuring many others who later succumbed. The victims are mostly women and children.  

 

 

A spokesperson for Jamaat-ul-Ahrar stated that the target for the attack was Christians.

 

All public parks and main shopping areas in the Punjab province have been closed and 3 days of mourning have been announced. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pope Francis offered condolences among others.
