ISRO launches 6th Navigation Satellite

. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch the IRNSS-1F satellite aimed at providing navigation accurately on par with the US-based Global Positioning System today at 4 pm from Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-C32 on its 34th mission. 

 

 

IRNSS is a constellation of 7 satellites and IRNSS 1F is the 6th one in the series which is all set to be launched from the Second Launch Pad (SLP) of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota about 110 km from Chennai.

 

 

The previous five satellites were launched on July 1, 2013 (IRNSS-1A), April 4, 2014 (IRNSS-1B), October 16,2014 (IRNSS-1C), March 28, 2015(IRNSS-1D), and January 20, 2016(IRNSS-1E). ISRO is planning to put all seven navigation satellites into the orbit by the end of March 2016.

 

ISRO has over the last 5 decades developed the IRS (Indian Remote sensing) and INSAT (Indian National Satellite System) series of satellites to meet the demands for remote sensing and communication needs of the country.
