A British entrepreneur Leo De Watts, 27 is minting money literally out of thin air. By ‘Air Farming’ i.e. collecting fresh air, he then sells bottles of British air in the street markets of smog-filled cities of China including Beijing and Shanghai at $115 per 580 ml bottle under the banner head of Aethaer.

Despite each bottle of air lasting for only moments, his business has taken off to the skies, as people in China are willing to pay the big bucks for a breath of fresh air, or even to gift the bottle as a novelty item.

Watts’ company Aethaer often receives requests for particular sources of air,  such as at the top of a mountain or at the bottom of a valley, or even more specific requests for air from popular British locales such as Dorset, Somerset and Wales.

The air farming is done by means of large ‘nets’ that capture the air, which is then sealed in glass jars before being sent to the smog filled streets of Beijing. As Beijing issues its first red alert for hazardous pollution, Aethaer is prepared with a 15-jar gift set for the discounted rate of $1,200.
