Jammu and Kashmir is known as Heaven on Earth. There are various tourist destinations and number of lakes in the valley. Manasbal Lake is situated in the Safapora Ganderbal District of Kashmir and is one of the deepest lakes in India with 13 m (43 ft) depth. The maximum length of the lake is 5 km and maximum width is 1 km.

During July and August, a large number of lotuses add to the beauty of this lake which is also a good place for aquatic birds. A beautiful and well maintained garden called Jaroka built by Nur Jahan overlooks the lake. The lake also has facilities for Shikara Riding and is surrounded by mountains from three sides.

A very old temple built in traditional architectural style of ancient Kashmir is located on the eastern shore of the lake. During restoration work of the lake the lower half of temple was found which was buried in the earth. The temple has a unique pyramid-shaped roof top with Corinthian or floral motifs. Pilgrims who visit Amarnath cave, Shankaracharya temple and Kheer Bhawani temple never miss the visit to this grey stone temple.
