Cloudburst in Uttarakhand, Badrinath highway closed

Chamoli, Uttarakhand/ 8 may 2016. Reports of cloudburst have taken place near Chamoli district in Uttarakhand resulting in heavy rains and landslides causing severe damage to houses and properties. No loss of life has been reported till now.

The Badrinath Highway has been closed down due to heavy landslide and the district administration has said all the necessary steps are being taken to resume the traffic. A motor workshop also got washed away due to heavy rain in the region an official said. 

Rescue Missions and warnings
The water levels in all the major rivers are rising and the irrigation department has issued a warning to the people lying in the lower areas. 

The rescue operations are on to evacuate those who have been struck due to landslides near highways. 

Damage
Government officials said it is too difficult to access the loss as there has been considerable damage to property and vehicles.
