According to the police, Badal was influenced by videos related to a criminal gang on YouTube.

On 23 June Mohan Dass, a resident of Mayur Vihar Phase-3, and employed as a Manager with Alukka Gold Palace, Mayur Pankaj Plaza, received a call from an unknown person claiming to be a member of a criminal gang, demanding Rs. 5,00,000 (5 Lakhs) as ransom.
