Delhi Fire Department Receives Highest fire call on Diwali; broke the record

New Delhi: This Diwali, Delhi witnessed a record-breaking number of fire incidents, with the Delhi Fire Service receiving the highest number of calls since 2012. 

As of midnight on Diwali day, receiving a total of 320 calls by November 1. The service  marking a 12-year high. Tragically, the night resulted in 3 deaths and 12 injuries.

Total Calls: 318

The yearly fire call data reveals a significant increase in emergency calls over the past decade. In 2024, there were 318 calls, a noticeable rise from 208 calls in 2023 and 201 calls in 2022. The number of calls has fluctuated in previous years, with 152 calls reported in 2021 and 205 in 2020. 

In 2019, the number was higher at 245 calls, while 2018 saw 271 calls. The trend continues with 204 calls in 2017, 243 in 2016, and 290 in 2015. The data shows a consistent increase in fire-related emergencies, with 211 calls in 2014 and 177 calls in 2013.

Fire-related Incidents

A fire broke out in a flat of an apartment in Delhi's Vikaspuri on Friday morning, according to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS). Upon receiving the information, a DFS team rushed to the scene and rescued two unconscious persons from the flat, who were then rushed to the hospital. 

To enter the flat, the DFS team had to break the window, said authorities. The fire reportedly started from domestic articles, they added. It is yet to be known what caused the fire. More information is awaited.

Fire in DTS Bus 

Meanwhile, a passenger and one co-passenger sustained burn injuries after crackers caught fire in a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus on Thursday evening, according to Delhi police.

Both the injured individuals have been shifted to IGI Hospital. Upon enquiry, it was revealed that a passenger who was carrying a small quantity of crackers caught fire on the bus.

Another incident 

On Diwali night, another fire broke out in a high-rise residential building in Noida West, leaving three floors severely damaged and resulting in the tragic loss of a pet dog. 

The incident occurred at Echo Village 1 in Noida West, where flames quickly spread through multiple floors, causing significant property damage and leaving residents shaken. (with Agency inputs)
