Delhi Civil Judges jurisdiction to increase soon: Delhi HC informed

New Delhi: The Delhi Government has informed the Delhi High Court that it has cleared the proposal in furtherance of the resolution dated February 9, 2022, of the Full Court of Delhi High Court regarding the enhancement of pecuniary jurisdiction of Civil Judges of Delhi Courts and Pecuniary appellate jurisdiction of District Judges of Delhi.
Principal Secretary (Law) Bharat Parashar filed the Delhi government's response in a Public Interest Litigation Petition filed by Lawyer and Activist Amit Sahni the proposal for enhancement of pecuniary jurisdiction of Civil Judges of Delhi Courts.

The pecuniary appellate jurisdiction of District Judges of Delhi has been approved by the Law Minister and Chief Minister of Delhi and the same has also been approved by the Lt Governor of Delhi on January 2, 2024.
"To raise the pecuniary appellate jurisdiction of the District Judge to Rs Twenty lakh by amending section 39 (1) (a) of the Punjab Courts Act, 1918 by the Parliament."
