Congress slams PM Modi on F-35 fighter jet deal with US

New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday accsued Prime Minister Narendra Modi of lacking the courage to reject the deal for the F-35 fighter jet, which billionaire Elon Musk had called 'substandard', in order to keep 'US President Donald Trump happy'. 

'Trump imposed reciprocal tariffs'
Party Spokesperson Ajoy Kumar also claimed that reciprocal tariffs imposed by the Trump administration against Indian would destroy the country's economy. 

'Govt Lacks Courage'
He argued that the Modi Government should have the courage to tell the US that such actions are unacceptable.

"Trump tried to humiliate India over tariffs, but this government is so shameless that, before leaving for the US, it reduced duties on Harley-Davidson and Tesla," he further said. 

'Economy is in Shambles'
Kumar further alleged: "The economy is in shambles under the Modi Governement. The stock market is in bad shape. Retaliotary tariffs will lead to decline in GDP and worsen the country's economic condition."

"American businessman Elon Musk has called the F-35 a substandard aircraft. But PM has not yet rejected the deal. The Modi government has not even stated that it will consult defence experts before making a decision. The F-35 is not in the country's best interest,"

Kumar asserted that the Modi governemnt is reluctant to reject the F-35 deal solelt to please Trump.
