Patna High Court: Centre notifies appointment of two judges

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium on September 24 recommended the elevation of two judicial officers of Bihar as judges in the High Court.The Central government on Tuesday notified the appointment of two judicial officers as Patna High Court judges. The two newly appointed High Court judges are Justices Shashi Bhushan Prasad Singh and Ashok Kumar Pandey.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the elevation of the two Bihar judicial officers as High Court judges on September 24. Union Law Minister (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal announced that this recommendation has been cleared by the Central government on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

 

The Patna High Court Collegium had forwarded the names of the two judicial officers to the Supreme Court Collegium on May 7 this year. The Bihar Chief Minister and Governor also concurred with the recommendations.

In terms of the Memorandum of Procedure, the judges of the Supreme Court conversant with the affairs of the Patna High Court were consulted to ascertain the fitness and suitability of the candidates.

The inputs of Union Department of Justice

The inputs of the Union Department of Justice were also considered.  As regards Shashi Bhushan Prasad Singh, it was noted that he was working as the Registrar (Vigilance) in the High Court and that he enjoyed a good personal and professional image, with nothing adverse against his integrity.

The Collegium had made favourable observations as regards Ashok Kumar Pandey too. He is currently serving as the Director of the Bihar Judicial Academy.

Hence, it found both names suitable for appointment as judges of the Patna High Court. (with Agency inputs)
