Captain Virdi Murder Case: Police Asks Interpol to issue Red Corner Notice against Shattaf

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Police has written to Interpol, requesting a Red Corner Notice against Hussain Shattaf, a fugitive accused of killing former merchant Navy officer Captain Manmohan Singh Virdi in 2006.

Last year, the Supreme Court notably set aside the Bombay High Court's order that had discharged Hussain Mohammed Shattaf and his wife Waheeda Hussain Shattaf in the murder case. Shattaf fled the country by using forged documents.

Pune Superintendent of Police (SP), in the letter, wrote: "We are forwarding the Interpol reference with all necessary details for further action. It is requested to communicate with UAE authorities for the next steps."

Shattaf, who has been absconding since the Pune Rural police registered the murder case against him, faces several other charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including forgery, criminal breach of trust, and others.

Captain Manmohan Singh Virdi was killed in Lonavala on May 14 in 2006. 
The Pune Police have issued a proclamation against Hussain Shattaf in connection with the Lonavala case, a move confirmed by the Maval Court. Furthermore, the Worli Police Station has also issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) against Shattaf in a separate passport forgery case.

Kin writes letter to Jaishankar

It is pertinent to mention that Virdi's family has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, requesting his intervention to extradite Hussain Shattaf from the UAE to face trial in the murder case.
