Media veteran SM Khan laid to rest in Khurja; Massive wellwishers surge

Khurja (Bulandshahr): Eminent Mediaman and 1982 Batch IIS Officer SM Khan was laid to rest on Monday at his family graveyard in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh.

The large number of dignitaries and wellwishers present at the burial included Salman Khursheed, former Union Minister; Sarwar Husain Khan, former Union Minister; Irfan Sahab, Mayor, Nagar Nigam, Aligarh; Ather Ibrahim Khan, Manager, Indian Oil Corporation and many other personalities'.

Khan passed away in New Delhi on Sunday. He breathed his last at a private hospital. He was 67. 

His body was taken to his native town Khurja for burial at his family graveyard.

Born in Kurja, Bulandshahr
Born on June 15, 1957 at Khurja in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, Khan belongs to a family of lawyers. 

Higher education 
He did his LLB and then LLM from Aligarh Muslim University and won the Chancellor’s Gold Medal. He later went to University of Wales for a degree in Economics.

Press Secretary to President 
SM Khan was the Press Secretary to the former President APJ Abdul Kalam.

After his term ended with the President, Khan moved to a prestigious position as the Director General (News) at Doordarshan.

CBI spokesperson
During his 13-year stint — 1989 to 2002 — at the CBI, Khan was the face of the Agency when it was handling several high-profile cases. 

Vice-President of IICC
He also held the position of Vice-President and trustee at the India Islamic and Cultural Centre, Delhi.

Member of AMU Court
Khan was also a member of the Aligarh Muslim University Court and was also appointed by the President of India as his nominee in the Executive Council of the AMU.
