Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Bangladeshi national along with liquor bottles in the bordering area of East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.

According to an official release, acting on a specific tip-off, vigilant troops of 172 Bn BSF conducted a special operation in the bordering area of BOP-Dona, leading to the apprehension of one Bangladeshi national identified as Shameem (22 years) resident of Sylhet district, Bangladesh, along with liquor bottles.

The apprehended Bangladeshi person and seized liquor bottles were handed over to PS- Umkiang for further legal action.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh agreed to undertake combined efforts to bring down incidents of attacks on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel by trans-border criminals of the neighbouring country.

According to an official statement by BSF, both sides "agreed to undertake combined efforts to bring down such incidents to an absolute minimum by increasing coordinated patrols, especially during late hours of the night to early morning in vulnerable areas and educating bordering population regarding the sanctity of the International Border."

The decisions were taken in the Sector Commander-level meeting at Border Outpost Hili of 61 Battalion of BSF under Raiganj Sector of North Bengal Frontier in Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal.

Both sides appreciated each other's concerns and commitment to settle different border issues amicably through continued, constructive and positive engagements at all levels.

They agreed to implement the decisions of the conference at ground level in true spirit. (with Agency inputs)
