A boy drowned and another went missing after falling into a stream on Sunday while trying to retrieve a cricket ball during a match in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Both aged 12 and hailing from Dardhie village of Magerkote, Abid Mushtaq and Towkeer Ahmad were playing cricket with their friends when the ball accidentally fell into the Pogal Paristan stream in the afternoon, a police official said.

The boys tried to get the ball back but they fell into the water and were washed away by the strong current, the official said, adding Mushtaq was rescued in a serious condition. He died on the way to hospital. Efforts are on to trace Ahmad, the official said. (PTI)
