BJP releases first list of candidates for Maharashtra Polls

Mumbai: The BJP on Sunday released its first list of 99 candidates for Maharashtra Polls.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is among the heavyweight candidates in the BJP's first list.
Fadnavis to contest from Nagpur West seat
Former state Chief Minister Fadnavis will be contesting from Nagpur West Assembly seat, which he has represented since 2009.
Party state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule has been fielded from Kamthi assembly seat.
Other prominent faces
Other prominent leaders who made into the first list include Ram Kadam from Ghatkopar West, Shweta Mahale Patil from Chikli, Sreejaya Ashok Chavan from Bhokar, and Nitish Rane from Kankavli.

Sreejaya is the daughter of the former state Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who swithed over to BJP from Congress in February earlier this year.
The state will go polls on November 20 while the outcome of the elections will be announced on November 23.
In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly election, the BJP and then united Shiv Sena contested as allies under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), while the Congress and then united Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) fought the polls together.

The NDA alliance won 161 seats (BJP 105, Shiv Sena 56) while the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) could win 98 seats (NCP 54 & Congress 44).
Owing to disagreements over Chief Minister post, Shiv Sena parted ways with NDA and formed a post-poll allianace with Sharad Pawar's NCP and Congress. On June 29, 2022, Uddhav Thackeray resigned as Chief Minister following a split in the party.
