New Delhi: BJP MP Radha Mohan Das Agrawal sparked major controversy during the Rajya Sabha discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill by making provocative comments about the Quran. The parliamentarian claimed to have studied Islamic scripture extensively and offered to present four specific verses during his speech.

Agrawal asserted these verses prove the Quran mandates written documentation for all financial transactions, contrasting this with Waqf's alleged lack of property records.

The MP made the inflammatory statement that "it's Hindus' kindness that they don't expose what's actually written in the Quran to Muslims." He accused previous Congress governments of granting Waqf boards unchecked authority to occupy government lands illegally. Agrawal cited specific figures, claiming 74% of Waqf properties in Uttar Pradesh and 50% in Telangana were built on encroached government land.

The BJP leader framed his remarks as exposing truth, saying "I'm revealing these facts because Waqf claims properties without any written records." His comments immediately drew sharp reactions across political lines, with opposition members visibly agitated. The speech linked religious interpretation directly to the contentious Waqf land reform debate.

Analysts note the remarks risk escalating existing tensions around the bill, which already faces criticism from minority groups. The incident highlights how religious texts are increasingly weaponized in India's political discourse. Parliament observers expect formal demands for clarification or apology from opposition parties in coming sessions.

This controversy emerges as the Modi government pushes for greater transparency in religious property management. The Waqf Amendment Bill proposes stricter documentation requirements and oversight mechanisms for Muslim charitable properties. Supporters argue this prevents illegal land grabs, while opponents view it as targeted legislation against Muslim institutions.

The political fallout continues developing as social media amplifies clips of Agrawal's speech. Some BJP supporters praise his "bold truth-telling," while Muslim leaders condemn what they call "selective and misleading" use of scripture. Legal experts caution that mixing theological arguments with policy debates could set dangerous precedents.

As tensions rise, all eyes remain on whether parliamentary leaders will censure the remarks or let them stand as part of vigorous debate. The incident guarantees the Waqf Bill will face even sharper scrutiny when voting resumes. Both sides are digging in for what promises to be one of this session's most contentious legislative battles.
