Mumbai: Actress Aishwarya Rai has stormed the heart of her admirers on several occasions with her gorgeous appearance and outstanding performances. Mani Ratnam's semi-biographical Tamil political drama 'Iruvar' was the actor's breakout cinematic debut in 1997.

Her debut Hindi film, 'Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya', was released the same year. Later, she appeared in films like 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', 'Devdas', 'Mohabbatein', and 'Dhoom 2'. 

As the lovely actress turned a year older today, let us take a look back at some of her most memorable performances.

Iruvar (1997)
Mani Ratnam's semi-biographical Tamil political drama, was an impressive celluloid debut for the actor. She played the dual roles of Pushpavalli and Kalpana with seasoned delicacy, the latter being a fictionalised version of former politician and actor Jayalalithaa.

Devdas (2002)
'Devdas', directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is regarded as a masterpiece film. Devdas Mukherjee's (SRK) life takes a turn for the worse when his family stops him from marrying Paro (Aishwarya Rai). Her outstanding performance earned her the Best Actress award at the 48th Filmfare Awards.


Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)

The actor portrayed Nandini, a lively and humorous young girl. She performed the role with three shades: intense love for Sameer (Salman Khan), callousness towards her husband Vanraj (Ajay Devgn), and eventual regret for him. Rai imbued the character with charisma and maturity.
Raincoat (2004)

The romantic drama directed by Rituparno Ghosh is a marvellous representation of the emotions of love and separation. It is a story of two estranged lovers who met one evening and this encounter allows them to realise the truth of their lives. Aishwarya and Ajay Devgn impressed the audience with their mature acting skills. 

Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022)
Aishwarya Rai's mesmerizing beauty left everyone awestruck in this movie. In a film based on Kalki's epic saga of the Chola dynasty and the power struggle for the coveted throne, Aishwarya played Nandini.
