Bengaluru: India suffered a crushing defeat at the hand of New Zealand in the first Test of the three-match series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.
With the virtue of this 8 wickets win, New Zealand recorded their first Test victory on the Indian soil in 36 years. Kiwis' last Test victory on Indian soil came under John Wright's captaincy when they defeated India by 136 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, way back in 1988.
NZ chases 107 runs target
Chasing a paltry target of 107 runs, the visitors got off to a bad start as Tom Latham was dimissed for a duck in the very first over of the fifth and the final day. He was trapped LBW by pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Later, Devon Conway and Will Young added 35 runs for the second wicket before Bumrah removed the former for 17 runs.
Young's unbeaten 48 and all-rounder Rachin Ravindra's 39-run unbeaten innings ensured New Zealand did not suffer further damage, helping the visitors register a historic Test victory.
Day 4
Earlier on Day 4, Sarfaraz Khan scored 150 runs for India while Rishabh Pant scored 99, helping India scored 462 runs in their second innings.
New Zealand will now look ahead to the second Test, which is scheduled to take place in Pune on October 24.
