New Delhi: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday slammed the Uttar Pradesh Government over the Bahraich violence and also appealed to people to take steps toward maintaining law and order.

Talking to reporters, Akhilesh Yadav said: "The incident in Bahraich is unfortunate. The government should have made adequate arrangements before the procession. They should have ensured proper security measures were in place."

Mr Yadav further added that the police should have supervised what was being played on music systems.

One killed in violence

On Sunday, one person was killed while several others were injured after two communities clashed during Durga idol immersion procession in the Mahasi area.

Police resorts to tear gas

Police on Monday resorted to tear gas and baton-charge in Bahraich to disperse people who were protesting against the killing of the person during the violent cash.
