Guwahati: More than 2 lakh people in 24 districts of the state have been affected by floods. The heavy downpour is still continuing. 

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), so far 24 districts namely Bajali, Baksa, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dima-Hasao, Hojai, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong West, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Udalguri, Jorhat, Kamrup Metro are affected by undaunted floods in the state.

About 700 villages are affected in 46 revenue circles in 20 districts so far,  said ASDMA.

Embankments have been breached at 16 locations in different districts in the last 24 hours.

It is reported that so far 7 people have lost their lives due to floods. 

Roads, bridges and houses have been completely or partially damaged in several areas.

Communication links have also been disturbed at some places. 

Around 55 relief camps have been opened in seven districts, sheltering more than 33,000 people. Besides, 12 relief distribution centres are also operational in different affected districts.
