Pune: India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin surpassed Australia's Nathan Lyon to became the highest wicket-taker in the ICC World Test Championship on Thursday during the second Test match against New Zealand being played at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
The India all-rounder picked up crucial wickets of Tom Latham and Will Young in the first session of Day 1 to grab the top spot in World Test Championship wicket-taker list.

Ashwin edges Lyon
He has picked 188 wickets in 39 matches. He surpassed Autralian spinner Nathan Lyon who scalped 187 wickets in 43 Tests.

2nd Highest wicket taker for India
Ashwin has taken 531 wickets in 104 Test matches while Lyon got 496 wickets in 122 matches. Ashwin is the second highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket. Former India Test skipper Anil Kumble holds the highest wicket-taker record for India with 619 scalps in the longer format of the game.
