All passengers rescued, track restoration at accident site going at swift pace: Southern Railway

Chennai : Track restoration is in full swing and will be completed soon at the site of the October 11 accident in Kavaraipettai where the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express derailed after ramming into a stationary goods train, a Southern Railway official said on Saturday.
The Senior Public Relations Officer, Southern Railway, D Om Prakash today said, "All passengers have been rescued, either moved to Chennai Central to board a special train to Darbhanga today morning, or moved to hospitals as needed.
Among the injured, three grievously injured passengers admitted at Stanley Medical College Hospital, and four passengers with simple injuries treated at Government Hospital Ponneri were given Ex-Gratia payment as per norms," he said.

The PRO also assured that track restoration would be completed soon as the work at the accident site is on in full swing.
According to officials, the stranded passengers of Train No.12578 Mysuru - Darbhanga Bagmati Express which met the accident at Kavaraipettai in Chennai Division around 08.30 pm on 11th October 2024 were transported by buses to Ponneri and to Chennai Central by two EMU Specials in early morning.
At Chennai Central
At Chennai Central, Railway doctors conducted a medical checkup for the passengers, after which they were provided food and water and were boarded onto the Passenger Special towards Darbhanga, via Arakkonam, Renigunta and Gudur. The special Train left at 04.45 hrs from Dr MGR Chennai Central.

A high level enquiry has been ordered by the Railway into the accident.
Meanwhile, due to accident several route of other train is rescheduled and diverted, the Train No.22802 Dr MGR Chennai Central - Visakhapatnam Express scheduled to leave at 10.00 hrs on 12th October 2024 is rescheduled to leave at 12.30 hrs (late by 2 hours and 30 minutes) and will run via diverted route of Arakkonam, Renigunta and Gudur, duly skipping stoppage at Sulurupetta.V (with Agency inputs)
