New Delhi: Ajay Kumar Singh, a senior IPS officer, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand, replacing Anurag Gupta who was removed from the post.

The Election Commission (EC) has taken this decision, citing the 'history of complaints' against acting DGP Anurag Gupta in previous elections.

The development comes days after EC announced the polls dates for Jharkhand assembly elections. The state will go to polls in two phases on November 13 and 20. The outcome of the polls will be announced on November 23.
