Delhi: AAP Councillor Mahesh Kumar Khichi on Thursday elected as new Mayor of Delhi. 

The long-delayed mayoral elections was held on Thursday, in which Khichi, the AAP councillor from Karol Bagh's Dev Nagar ward secured 133 votes while his nearest BJP rival Kishan Lal from Shakurpur ward garnered 130 votes.

According to reports, total 10 AAP councillors cross voted.

Two Votes declared Invalid 

A total of 265 votes were cast for the post of Mayor, of which 2 were declared invalid.

Arvind Kejriwal congratulates Khichi

AAP supremo and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal also took to X to congratualate him on his victory. 

"Many congratulations to Mahesh Kumar ji on being elected as the new Mayor of Delhi. Work diligently for the people, take forward the good work being done in MCD," Kejriwal said in the post. 

Mahesh Kumar Khichi

Mahesh Kumar Khichi has done his B.Com from Motilal Nehru College, Delhi University. Mahesh belongs to the Scheduled Caste and the third term of the Mayor in MCD is reserved for a Scheduled Caste candidate.
