40-year-old woman held for murder of minor girl
Police arrested Rekha Sutar after forensic evidence established her involvement in the murder of five-year-old Manvi Ingle, who lived near her house.
Mumbai: A 40-year-old woman was today arrested for the murder of a minor girl who was thrown from a high rise building in December, police said.
Police arrested Rekha Sutar after forensic evidence established her involvement in the murder of five-year-old Manvi Ingle, who lived near her house.
Manvi, daughter of policewoman Aarti Ingle, was thrown off a high rise building in Byculla, Central Mumbai, on December 19. She died on the spot.

Police initially detained two women, including Rekha, for questioning but she denied any role in the crime. During investigation, Rekha was subjected to a series of forensic tests, including DNA analysis.

Rekha was summoned by police after receiving the test results and put under arrest this afternoon.

"We have arrested the woman on the basis of reports of forensic tests. These tests confirm her involvement in the crime," Nandkumar Gopale, Inspector of Byculla Police, said.
She will be produced in a court tomorrow, he added.
The accused, who had separated from her husband, was staying with her parents. She was mentally ill and would often get irritated after seeing children, police sources said. (PTI)
