Algiers: A deadly road accident early Wednesday killed 34 people in Algeria's southern province of Tamanrasset, with 12 others injured, the local civil protection department said.
A passenger bus collided with a pick-up, causing an explosion and fire. Ambulances and rescue teams rushed to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

National Gendarmerie detectives have launched an investigation.
According to the Algerian National Center for Prevention and Road Safety, more than 90 percent of traffic accidents in Algeria are caused by human error, particularly driver negligence. Other causes of road accidents include the poor state of roads and cars and environmental factors. (PTI)
