28 get life imprisonment in 2018 Chandan Gupta Murder case

Lucknow: An NIA court in Lucknow on Friday sentenced 28 convicts to life imprisonment in Chandan Gupta Murder case, reports Dynamite News correspondent. 

Earlier on Thursday, the NIA court on Thursday held all 28 individuals guilty in the 2018 murder case. 

According to Dynamite News correspondent,  on 26 January 2018, during Republic Day celebrations, a "Tiranga Yatra" (Tricolor Rally) was organised in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh. During this event, a clash broke out between two groups, and amidst the chaos, Abhishek Gupta, also known as Chandan Gupta, was shot dead.

Chandan's father 

After the court convicted 28 individuals, Chandan's father sought capital punishment for all the culprits. He said that the verdict came late but he welcomed it. 

Convicts 

The NIA Special Court has convicted and sentenced Asif Qureshi alias Hitler, Aslam Qureshi, Asim Qureshi, Shabab, Saqib, Munajir Rafi, Aamir Rafi, Salim, Wasim, Naseem, Bablu, Akram, Taufiq, Mohsin, Rahat, Salman, Asif, Asif Gym Wala, Nishu, Wasif, Imran, Shamshad, Zafar, Shakir, Khalid Parvez, Faizan, Imran, Shakir, Zahid alias Jagga to life imprisonment. All of them have been convicted under Sections 147, 148, 307/149, 302/149, 341, 336, 504, 506 of the IPC.

The NIA court has acquitted accused Nasrudin and accused Asim Qureshi citing lack of evidence. 

Violence engulfed Kasganj
Chandan was 20 years old. He was a B.Com final year student and the youngest son of the family. After this incident, violence erupted in Kasganj. Many vehicles and shops were set on fire. Curfew was imposed in Kasganj for several days.
