Eleven people lost their lives, while 20 were left injured, after a bus collided with a tanker trailer on the Barmer-Jodhpur Highway in Rajasthan on Wednesday.

According to Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhargava, the accident took place at Bhandiyawas village of Barmer district, leading to on-the-spot death of nine bus passengers, while one person was burnt in the trailer. The injured were shifted to Nahata Hospital of Balotra, where one of them succumbed to his injuries. Eight seriously-injured persons have been referred to Jodhpur, added the SP.

Bhargava said 28 passengers had taken tickets at the time of departure of the bus and later, more passengers may have boarded the bus on way, adding that there was no information about such passengers.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot posted on social media that he has directed the District Collector of Barmer to ensure best treatment to the injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the accident. In a series of tweets, he posted,"It is saddening that people have lost their lives due to a bus-tanker collision at the Barmer-Jodhpur Highway in Rajasthan. In this hour of grief, my condolences to the bereaved families. I pray that the injured have a quick recovery. An ex-gratia of Rs two lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to the accident at the Barmer-Jodhpur Highway in Rajasthan. The injured would be given Rs 50,000 each.
State President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Satish Poonia, former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Congress State President and Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasra also expressed grief over the accident, expressed their condolences to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery to the injured.(UNI)
