Navratri: Devotees worship IV Manifestation of Durga, Kushmanda on Wednesday

New Delhi/ 5 October 2016. The nine days or Navratri are dedicated to the worship of goddess Durga.  Navratri, are dedicated to different aspects of human life. With each avatar, we learn something.

 

According to mythology, when there was no universe, there was only deep darkness around. Goddess Kushmanda smiled and thus, there was light everywhere. In this way, she created the Universe and filled it with life.

 

The fourth day of Navratri is dedicated to goddess Kushmanda for worshipping the source of this creation.

 

Her name signals her importance: Ku means "a little", Ushma means "warmth" or "energy" and Anda means "cosmic egg". She created the universe with her divine smile.

 

Kushmanda is worshipped as the consort of Shiva. She is believed to improve health and bestow wealth and strength.
