. James Murdoch is coming back to Sky, Britain’s subscription broadcaster as its Chairman. The move comes after four years when Murdoch resigned from the post in the wake of phone-hacking scandal.

Murdoch was chief executive and then chairman of what was then called BSkyB from 2003 to 2012. He stepped down because of the fallout from the phone hacking scandal at News International where he held the role of chairman. News International was the publisher of the Sun, Times and now defunct News of the World. In 2014, BSkyB merged with its two sister broadcasters, Sky Italia and Sky Deutschland, in a £7bn deal and it was renamed Sky.

What his return means?

His return is being seen as another attempt made by the movie maker Fox, where Murdoch is the Chief Executive, to take full control of the broadcaster. If this happens, it would complete Rupert Murdoch's plan to head an integrated European broadcaster. The US film company presently owns 39% of Sky formerly held by News Corp. Fox was forced to give up on an £8bn-plus bid to take full control of Sky UK in 2011.
