New Delhi/ 1 June 2016.
Delhi University (DU) on Wednesday started online registration for undergraduate courses. This time the entire process is centralized and entirely online.

With 64 DU affiliated colleges having a vacancy of about 60,000 seats, the central online registration process will close on June19. This year there will be 5 cut off lists. The first one will be released on June 27 and the fifth list will be on July 16. Admission process closes August 16.

By introducing this process of online registration, DU is looking positively that this time there will be no long queues. Therefore it shall be more convenient for everybody to register online.

Dynamite News went to the DU campus and talked to Dean Students’ Welfare, JM Khurana. Dynamite News also spoke to Harmanpreet Singh who is a member of ABVP helpline desk. JM Khurana said, “During previous years students had to come in person even from far off places such as northeast, Jammu and Kashmir and even from the down south and had to stand in queues for hours to submit their forms. This time things are easy. They can register for admission from their cities anytime till June 19.”

Online Vs Offline
DU has perhaps started the online process of registration with the assumption that more than 95 percent people in India are Internet literate. But we should remember that PC penetration in our country is around 9 percent i.e. people who are familiar with the computer. Internet comes much later. Therefore students should be well aware of all the intricacies of online filing system.

“To enhance the transparency of the admission process, DU has gone totally into online process of registration. Verification and validation of the forms submitted becomes very easy in case of online process. Paper works are tedious”, said Harmanpreet Singh, a member of ABVP helpline desk.

“But online registration is not easy like the paper works. People need to get familiar with the system before trying it. Even if you are going to any cyber café the person sitting there is also not familiar with the process of DU’s online registration process.” Singh added.
