DN Recipe: Aloo Posto

Aloo Posto is famous Bengali dish. It is enjoyed with hot dal and rice in Bengal. 


Ingredients 
Potatoes                                           5-6 medium size 
Khus khus (posto/ poppy seeds)         4 spoons soaked.
mustard oil                                        2 teaspoons
Kalonji  (onion seeds)                         ½  teaspoon
Green chilly                                       2-3 pieces
Salt                                                   to taste
Sugar                                                1/2 teaspoon
Pure ghee                                          1/2 teaspoon
 

Method
Soak poppy seeds in water for 30 minutes and then make a thick paste. Add 1 green chili while making the paste.

 

Add little salt to the paste.

 

Cut potatoes into ½ inch cubes.

 
Heat mustard oil in a non-stick pan till it smokes, add onion seeds and sauté till fragrant. Add potatoes and mix well. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.

 

Add poppy paste and mix . Cover and cook again till the potatoes are done.

 

Add salt, sugar and slit green chillies and mix. Now add ½ cup water and mix. Simmer for a minute.

 

Add ghee and serve hot with Dal and Rice.
