Dana Majhi, who walked for 10 kilometres with his wife’s corpse on his shoulder in Odisha’s Kalahandi district last month after she had died in the district headquarters hospital (DHH) on August 23, received on Thursday Rs 9 lakh donated by Bahrain Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

The amount was given to Majhi at Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain at New Delhi.

Kadey Soren, Secretary of All Odisha Adhivasi Forum, who accompanied Dana Majhi spoke to Dynamite News and confirmed it.

After reciving the amount Majhi said, “I will deposit the amount in the account of my three daughters and will spend for them. The Baharin PM has donated the money after knowing about my plight and sad days."

After going through an article on Dana Majhi in the ‘Akhbar Al Khaleej’, the Bahrain Prime Minister felt that he should do something about it and made a donation to Dana Majhi, reported the ‘Gulf Digital News’.

It may be recalled here that after his (Dana Majhi)’s wife Amangdei succumbed to tuberculosis on August 23 night at the DHH, Majhi sought help from the hospital staff in carrying the body back to his village 60 km away. But, after the hospital staff rebuffed him, Majhi walked with the corpse on his shoulders for almost 12 km along with his youngest daughter till a reporter came to his rescue and got him ambulance from a local NGO. The district administration, though was informed, could not help him.
