After about 5-decade legal battle, Ajit Singh gets varsity gold medal

After fighting a 47-year-long court battle, Ajit Singh Singhvi, 81, a retired IAS officer, finally was awarded a gold medal on Thursday by Rajasthan University for getting first position in LLB examination which he had cleared in 1969.


When about half a century ago Ajit joined LLB evening classes at Government Dungar College, Bikaner, he was 34. At that time Ajit was a Rajasthan Administrative Services officer who was promoted to IAS in 1979.

 

In 1969 he had passed his LLB and secured highest marks in aggregate but was given second position reportedly to allow a college to maintain its merit track record.

 

Beginning of court battle
IAS officer Singhvi did not accept the result and approached the court claiming that he deserved first position and the result be reevaluated and revised accordingly.

 

His plea was accepted by the court and he finally won the case from Rajasthan High Court.


Awarded gold medal 
Ajit Singh Singhvi was awarded the gold medal and a citation by Rajasthan University Vice Chancellor J P Singhal at a ceremony.
